Juneteenth: Living History. Bring the family!

This event is free and family-friendly! Finish the Juneteenth weekend with this educational and inspirational live event!. Bring your children and let them hear from living history makers that could inspire them to greatness. Perhaps there is a future political activist, a Governor, or even a brain surgeon in your family!

Have them hear from Clarence Henderson, Civil Rights icon, one of the men who sat in at the Woolworth lunch counter. Dr. Ben Carson, world-renowned for his successful parting of co-joined twins and being a Presidential candidate. FInally our current Lt. Gov, Mark Robinson, a man whose political future may take him to the Governorship…and beyond.

Clarence Henderson, Civil Rights Icon

Feb. 2, 1960. It was on this day that the iconic photograph of four black men, one being Henderson, sitting at the Woolworth lunch counter was taken. He says this photo “went around the world” and inspired sit-ins at lunch counters across the country, even in places that were already integrated. His motivation for joining the protest was simply to be treated as a human being “and not anything less than. “Walking into Woolworths that day was a different kind of experience for me, not knowing if I was going to come out in a vertical position in handcuffs going to jail, or in a horizontal position going to a hospital or the morgue.” Currently, he is the president of the Frederick Douglass Foundation of North Carolina and the National spokesperson for the Douglass Leadership Institute,

Dr. Ben Carson, Presidential Candidate

He is a world-renowned pediatric neurosurgeon who performed the first successful separation of conjoined twins, who were attached at the back of the head The operation lasted some 22 hours and involved a 70-member surgical team. It was the first of many. Carson was also known for having performed the first successful rescue of a hydrocephalic twin using a shunt in the brain of a developing fetus in the womb. After his retirement, he tossed his hat in the ring and ran for President in 2016. While ultimately not successful in that endeavor, President Trump appointed him to head of HUD. In 2022, he published Created Equal: The Painful Past, Confusing Present, and Hopeful Future of Race in America

Mark Keith Robinson: Lt. Governor of North Carolina

Keith Robinson was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, the ninth of ten children. Mark became a household name in 2018 when he delivered an incredibly strong address to the Greensboro City Council defending the 2nd Amendment. That speech went viral. This led him to run for office, garnering an astonishing 33% of the vote in an eight-man primary. Since 2020 he has served as the 35th lieutenant governor of North Carolina. Mark is the first African-American to hold the office. Before becoming Lt. Gov, Mark worked in various blue-collar industries, including furniture manufacturing. He was also blessed to start, run, and sell a successful small business. Robinson and his wife, Yolanda, have two children
